Locally, Pi Lambda Phi MNKX sponsors a number of local charities including Adopt-A-Highway, food shelves, and other various organizations.

On the WSU campus, the chapter traditionally hosts the Miss WSU competition.

From the Winonan, 2002:

The Miss WSU pageant was established by Shayde Rudenick, a brother of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity. With the help of his fraternity brothers, the first Miss WSU pageant was held in the spring of 1992.

"Shayde wanted the proceeds from the pageant to go to a charitable cause, so that he could give something back to his community," said Paul Wermers, assistant director of the pageant and brother of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity.

Rudenick passed away in the spring of 1995 from adrenoleukodystrophy, a genetic disorder resulting in the deterioration of the body's functions.

"In 1994 a unanimous decision was made by the fraternity brothers to have the proceeds from the Miss WSU pageant go to the ALD Foundation," Wermers said.

Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity continues to hold the Miss WSU pageant every year in memory of Rudenick. According to Wermers, the only stipulations upon entry in the contest is that participants be "female Winona State students sponsored by a club."

Internationally, Pi Lambda Phi sponsors the March of Dimes, a health charity, whose mission is to improve the health of babies. It was founded in 1938 as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis to defeat the epidemic disease polio.
